Vehicles fitted with VM turbo diesel engines were only available with manual transmission. In November 1992, the VM 2500TD engine was replaced by Land Rover's own diesel unit, the 200Tdi, which was already fitted to the Discovery and Defender. In March 1994, the 200Tdi was replaced by the 300Tdi.
Just get a non cat front pipe, under fifty quid for a defender 110 300Tdi without the flexi, or about 30 quid more for the disco one with the flexi pipe.
