UPDATE 04/13/2017 2003 Ford Ranger 2.3. Now that I know what the vehicle is, it is probably the valve cover gasket faulty letting oil leak down onto the front of timing chain cover. You can try snugging/tightening up the cover bolts to see if that helps/stops the oil leak as a first step.
Let's say u replace ur timing belt at 121k. And by luck ur water pump fails at 123k. Its easier just swapping it out than worrying about it there about $60 for a ford non-aftermarket one. It cut down labor costs too if u are not the one working on it
